Bauer is the most-worn ice hockey skate brand in the EIHL and NHL. Three product families cover every level of the game; the Bauer X range for recreational or new-to-the-game players, Vapor for established players who build their game on speed and agility, and Supreme for powerful players with a driving stride.

    Ice Hockey Skate FAQs

I'm new to hockey - where do I start?

Start with our beginner hockey skates - the Bauer X range. The X, X-LP, and X-LS skates are purpose-built for players just getting into the game - they feature flexible boots to make learning easier and comfortable liners to minimise break-in time. All three models are inspired by the Vapor skate family, so you're buying into a proven system at an accessible price. Available across senior, intermediate, junior, and youth sizing.

Should I choose Vapor or Supreme skates?

Your choice comes down to skating style. Vapor is built for players who rely on quick acceleration, agile turns, and fast edge changes - the tapered heel pocket and lower boot cut are optimised for agility. Supreme is built for players who want a more powerful stride and strong energy transfer -  the stiffer lower shell and anatomical fit transfer more energy directly into the blade. If you like a lighter, more agile feel, start with Vapor. If you prefer a more powerful, supportive feel, start with Supreme.

Which fit profile do I need - Fit 1, Fit 2, or Fit 3?

Fit 1 is narrow and low-volume, suited to players with a slim heel and narrow forefoot. Fit 2 is the standard profile and suits the majority of players. Fit 3 is a wider, higher-volume fit that often works for players who have historically experienced pinching across the toe box or forefoot. If you're between profiles or have an unusual foot shape, a FitLab 3D scan at an authorised Bauer retailer is recommended to remove the guesswork and get a dialled-in fit.

How do Bauer skate sizes compare to my shoe size?

Bauer skate sizing doesn’t match shoe sizing exactly. Most players wear skates that are 1 or 1.5 sizes smaller than their street shoes, but this can vary. A proper fit should feel snug - your toes should lightly brush the toe cap when standing upright - but this contact should reduce when you flex into a skating stance.
